“Security is the oxygen to prosperity”

Debates of Serbian and Slovak University students continue

On May 19 and May 20, 2014, student debating teams from Belgrade University and University of Novi Sad visited Slovakia. Together with their peers from the Faculty of Social and Economic Studies of Comenius University in Bratislava and the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica they discussed NATO from the angle of security, prosperity and disaster relief. They also elaborated on the impact that the annexation of Russia and its destabilization of Eastern Ukraine had on their countries and the interconnectivity of values of NATO and the EU in the EU accession negotiations.

As one of the students underlined, “Security is the oxygen to prosperity”, and therefore, the role and importance of NATO should be properly discussed and understood in Serbia.

Students from Serbia arrived to Slovakia as part of the project Strengthening Debating Skills and Promoting Democratic Values Among Youth, jointly implemented by MESA10 and Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies, Belgrade, Serbia. The project is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy.
