2014: Serbian and Slovak University students expect Serbia to harmonize its foreign policy with the European Union, increasingly identify themselves with NATO values and demonstrate a growing interest in European and Transatlantic security

Opinion polls taken after 2014 Spring and Fall Semester Debate Tournaments among university students from Serbia and Slovakia demonstrate that the majority of students believe that Serbia will harmonize its foreign policy with the EU acquis. The polls also reflect an increased identification of students with NATO values. In 2014, compared with 2013 polls, the identification of students with NATO values grew by 11 points.

Students’ interest in European and Transatlantic security grew annually by 10 points, reaching 82% in the fall of 2014.

In addition to that, 2/3 of the students are convinced that Russia’s annexation of Crimea violated international law and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The opinion poll was done among the students who participated or watched the debates of university students from Serbia and Slovakia in 2014. It is a part of a joint debate project of MESA10 and CEAS Belgrade.
